In June 1918 the RFC opened an airfield at Forelands in order to provide increased air cover for the island.Temporary(Bessoneaux) hagars were erected and a dozen DH.6 aircraft were based there,operated by 512 and 513 Flights.On formation of the Royal Air force these became part of 253 Sq.With the finish of WW1 the station was closed in 1919 and the land sold in 1920.Today no trace of its former use remains.
